VI Friendly

MKLink's experience of working with charities has led to the development of a standard for websites which allow the visually impaired (V.I. users) to get the most out of the web. This is particularly relevant since the change in the Disability Discrimination Act means that we all need to make efforts to review our website's accessibility, and make the necessary changes to help disabled users. We can help you comply with the law and, make sure your website helps others, particularly visually impaired (V.I.) users.

Disability user-friendly website tips

  • Use clear, simple language
  • Divide up large amounts of information into manageable chunks
  • Keep a strong contrast between foreground and background colours
  • Provide text equivalents for non-text elements
  • Make sure pages are still useable if any special scripts or 'applets' in them aren't supported or are turned off
  • Avoid pop-ups if possible
  • Identify where each link is going
  • Provide text alternatives to any multimedia elements
